A place where meat eater and vegans coexist is the mantra that Quianna “Que” Broden lives by. Her restaurant, the Kitchen, which opened in July 2019, is a creative space designed to mirror an actual kitchen. There are bookcases filled with reading material that is welcome to anyone, family photos, shelves displaying cooking utensils and gadgets, and a long counter where guests can sit and watch as Que cooks up delicious meals. I couldn’t help but feel as if I was sitting on the set of Food Network watching my favorite chef. How exciting!
Que is on a mission to teach others to “Eat to Live” and introduce more plant based meals into their lives. The Kitchen’s menu consists of a mix of vegan and plant based options. You will also find a salmon salad on the menu featuring wild caught salmon, fresh greens, purple onion, cucumbers, and tomato tossed in a vidalia onion vinaigrette. I like that the Kitchen doesn’t have a ton of meat substitutes and processed ingredients. Yes, you will find the Beyond burger on the menu, but there are a lot of fresh vegetables used in the dishes. Take the Buffalo Cauliflower tacos and the Harvest Bowl made out of sweet potato boats and topped with quinoa, brown rice, and fresh veggies.
Mind, Body, & Soul Smoothie
Mango, peach, OJ, banana, turmeric, ginger, almond milk. This smoothie is super fresh and you can taste how healthy it is with every sip. The banana adds a tropical sweetness that pairs well with the mango and OJ. The almond milk adds a nice nutty creaminess. Perfect to boost your immune system!
Harvest Breakfast Scramble
JUST egg, spinach, mushrooms, tomatoes, vegan sausage, and cheese served with heavenly potatoes. This was better than expected. I haven’t had JUST egg before and it was good. It resembled the real thing. The fresh veggies were delicious, the vegan sausage was good, and potatoes were perfectly browned. This breakfast scramble was well balanced and the best part is that I felt good eating it.
Vegan Mac & Cheese
Vegan mozzarella and cheddar cheeses, vegan cream cheese, fresh garlic, soy milk, cracked black pepper, topped with fresh parsley. My favorite thing about this mac and cheese was how creamy it is (which is hard to achieve with some vegan cheeses). There was that delicious crust of baked cheese on top which tells me this mac and cheese got some oven love.
Buffalo Cauliflower Sandwich
Cauliflower steak seasoned and breaded, vegan mayo, red onion, pickles, and tomato served with a salad of fresh greenage, tomatoes, cucumbers, lightly dressed. This was the BEST cauliflower sandwich I’ve ever had. The cauliflower steak was thick and meaty and the buffalo flavor was on point. The fresh veggies added a nice crisp freshness to balance out the spice. The vegan mayo was light, creamy, and the perfect amount.
If you’ve met, befriended, or been in the same room as Que, you’ve experienced first hand the energy and positivity that radiates off of her. As soon as you step foot in the Kitchen, you walk into Que’s world with music playing, people laughing, and Que singing and dancing while she cooks up interactive meals before your eyes. In my opinion, this is the way every meal should be prepared! If you haven’t experienced the Kitchen, you gotta go and see for yourself.
