Sava’s in Downtown Ann Arbor is now open for dining in and patio seating. Masks are required while walking around, but guests can take them off while seated. Tables are set 6 ft apart and employees are taking precautions to keep everyone safe. The girls and I decided to celebrate Lora’s birthday at Sava’s and it was delicious!
Shrimp fried rice
Slow-roasted vegetables, bang bang sauce, sunny side eggs. Normally this also comes with bacon, but since I don’t eat it, I asked for the dish without it. I took a break from my go to dish, the Hippie Bowl to try something new. Boy, am I glad I did. Large pieces of seasoned shrimp presented on a bed of fried rice made with slow roasted sweet potatoes and cauliflower. The best part was once you broke the egg yolks, you were left with a rich, luscious sauce to pull the whole dish together. I think I have a new favorite menu item!
Gemelli Pasta
Mushroom bolognese, ricotta, parmesan, basil. This was Lora’s choice and it was amazing! Earthy, meaty mushroom sauce joined by creamy, ricotta cheese, and fresh, sweet basil. I am definitely ordering this on my next visit!
We had to get dessert….
Meyer lemon custard
Meringue, red wine poached blueberries. This was one of the best desserts I’ve had in a while! The combo of lemon and blueberry is so hot right now. Bright, creamy, slightly sour Meyer lemon custard joined with sweet, decadent blueberries, and topped with a dried meringue. Brilliant! The meringue was very interesting because it reminded me of astronaut ice cream. Remember elementary school field trips to the science center?!
I really like the menu at Sava’s. It is a nice balance of small plates, vegetarian/vegan selections, meat and seafood, and healthy dishes. There is something for everyone no matter your dietary choices. Please visit Sava’s website or call for current hours and restaurant policies as we continue to navigate through the global pandemic.
