Located in Depot Town, Ypsilanti, MI, Ollie Food & Spirits (the former Cafe Ollie) offers a little bit of everything including gluten free, vegetarian, and vegan options. Ollie’s separated their space into two spots which both opened earlier this year in April: Ollie Food & Spirits and Cream & Crumb (cafe and ice cream parlor). Ollie Food & Spirits menu consists of brunch, small plates, large plates, and cocktails. Featuring high-quality, locally sourced ingredients, Ollie’s really cares about the dishes they put out and it shows. The menu is seasonal and rotates so you get to try each ingredient at it’s peak freshness. When I go to Ollie’s, I know that I’m getting delicious, good for you, food without being overpriced.
I started with a Mimosa
Because, well, when in Rome…..do as….the uh….Romans! An essential addition to any brunch meal. Sometimes even the only brunch meal!
Topped with sausage, eggs, avocado, sautéed veggies, cheese, and sour cream. Drizzled with hot sauce. If you know me, you know that I love anything Mexican and that includes nachos. Add cheesy scrambled eggs and breakfast sausage and this is right up my alley. The sour cream added enough creamy coolness to balance the hot sauce. The veggies added sweetness and some texture. Avocado is a must and my only wish was that there was more cheese. The egg’s only real role was to make it OK for me to eat nachos for breakfast. Look, Ma, eggs! Throw eggs on anything and the dish automatically becomes a breakfast item. Hence, breakfast nachos.
Cocktails & Adult Shakes
Ollie’s has a chill, but cool vibe, with menus written on chalkboards and bright colors. (Kudos because I am not that talented with chalk). In addition to cocktails, Ollie Food & Spirits also offers boozy shakes with unique and well thought out names. “Champagne in the Membrane,” features lemonade, black cherry syrup, and lemon sorbet & “Karma Karma Caramel Chameleon” includes Atwater Vanilla Java Porter, Caramel, Cinnamon, Vanilla ice cream. Who doesn’t like ice cream coupled with brew?
Not only does Ollie Food & Spirits offer food and drinks, but they hang super cool art on their walls. I really liked this piece made out of metal zipper pulls.
All in all, if you are looking for a casual spot with good food, check out Ollie’s Food & Spirits. And don’t forget to pop in next door, and see what Cream & Crumb is all about. The Hummingbird cake is delicious!
