If you’ve seen the movie Pulp Fiction, then you are familiar with Royale with Cheese (John Travolta’s character’s reference to what they call a quarter pounder with cheese in Paris). Childhood friends, Hass Bazzy and Moe Ettaher partnered up and opened the Quentin Tarantino classic themed halal burger spot earlier this year in April. You can expect creative sandwich and burger choices such as We Brie Jammin featuring Double Cream Brie, Fig Jam, Caramelized Onion on Rosemary Sourdough and Gran Cru including 1/3 Lb Wagyu Patty, Roquefort, French Fried Onions, Green Peppercorn Aioli. Royale with Cheese is also dishing out loaded tots including Corned Beef Hash Tots and Buffalo Tots, a personal favorite. Think creative twists on the classics with sophisticated ingredients like pepita pesto and Gruyere cheese.
Nacho Cheese Ravioli: Handmade deep fried Doritos Ravioli filled with jalapeno nacho cheese and “New World” roasted tomato sauce. Pretty good! Love that these are handmade….most fried ravioli are frozen these days. The nacho cheese had a slight kick of flavor that balanced well with the sweet roasted tomato sauce and pesto/balsamic drizzle. The ravioli itself was soft, yet crispy and browned on the outside.
Royale: Smoked Brisket, Southwest corn relish, caramelized onions, avocado, smoked Gouda fondue, creamy coleslaw, royale sauce. My favorite addition was the corn relish. It added a nice sweetness and texture to the smoked brisket. The caramelized onions brought a deep, savory flavor that paired well with the creamy, crunchy coleslaw. And who doesn’t love avocado? Cool and bright. This sandwich was loaded with toppings and half of the them fell off with each bite. It was a sloppy, sexy, and delicious experience.
Havana: Topped with turkey bacon, fried egg, cheese fondue, Chipotle ketchup. Side of BBQ fries. A fried egg makes any sandwich better. It adds a rich, silky sauce that pairs well with anything. The Chipotle ketchup added a nice smoky kick and tasted great with the cheese fondue. The turkey bacon was seasoned well and added the perfect bit of fat. The BBQ fries were killer. Super crispy and heavily seasoned without being too salty. They were also the perfect utensil to scoop up all the goodies.
The walls are covered with Pulp Fiction art that takes you right back to the movie. It pairs well with the exposed brick and the slightly industrial yet polished decor. Royale with Cheese has a cool vibe and a unique menu that sets them apart from the other burger spots out there. Brunch is served Saturday and Sunday and you can order an array of different breakfast sandwiches including a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich with goat cheese and Buffalo ranch. I definitely need to get on that breakfast sandwich game.
