First of all, Rose’s Fine Foods is a diner, yes, but the food coming out of the kitchen is so much more than the usual fried or flat top cooked dishes. Fresh, seasonal, and local is how I describe the good for you, quality foods being served. Rose’s Fine Foods bakes all of their breads and pastries daily for peak freshness and it shows. In addition to homemade ricotta cheese. Rose’s Fine Foods is churning their own butter, and making tortilla’s (for the breakfast tacos). You can also score scratch made hot sauce, granola, and coffee. Rose’s Fine Foods also cares about giving back to their community. They pay their employees a fare wage and donate to a Detroit based charity monthly. How awesome!
Now, on to the food!
Dude Abides (the Big Lebowski reference): Heirloom rice bowl with seasonal vegetables, avocado, house kimchi, sesame dressing and topped with a fried egg. Vegan, gluten free, and so delicious. This rice bowl includes crisp veggies, creamy avocado, a little kick from the kimchi, and nice nutty zest from the sesame dressing. The yolk from the egg added an extra sauce and tied all the ingredients together. It was filling without being heavy and I didn’t miss the meat.
Bacon, Egg, and Cheese Sandwich: Fried egg, Cheddar cheese, aioli, Detroit-grown salad greens, and bacon between two pieces of wheat toast. The bacon was cooked just how I like it. Slightly chewy, but not overcooked or burnt. I like that this sandwich was made with good old wheat toast because it reminded me of the sandwiches I make. It was also hearty and fresh. Also, the sandwich came with a blend of seasonal potatoes (even purple, my favorite!) which are served browned. The greens were bright, crisp, and the aioli was good, but I could’ve used a little more.
Rose’s Fine Food is small, but that’s what makes them so awesome. The menu is seasonal so it changes every so often. Each ingredient is picked at its maximum freshness and used to create wholesome dishes. Rose’s Fine Foods has a lot of character and it can be found plastered all over the walls. Not only is Rose’s Fine Foods a good place to enjoy a healthy meal, but it’s also a great spot to invest your money.
