We celebrated our birthday dinner at @high_societe We celebrated our birthday dinner at @high_societe in downtown Dearborn, MI.

We started with Oysters. These babies came from Prince Edward Island, Canada. These were good, just small.

Chicken Katsu Bao Buns: These were awesome! Crunchy chicken, bright pickled toppings, and that sweet chili aioli! The bao bun was deep fried which was almost like a cross between a traditional bao bun and a crispy chalupa.

Thai Basil Pesto Flatbread: This was good. Cheesy, crusty flatbread with good flavor. I would’ve liked more pesto. And it came with a sprinkle of ground chicken instead of shredded chicken listed on the menu.

Thai Chicken Lo Mein: The presentation was on point! The grilled, sliced chicken on top was delicious. Generous portion of different veggies including baby corn, bok choy, bell peppers, water chestnuts, eggplant, cabbage. The stir fry sauce was a little too salty for my taste, but I tend to be sensitive to sodium. The ginger citrus sauce that came on the side was really good and helped balanced out the dish. The dish needed more sauce since the noodles absorbed a lot of it.

Braise Lamb Shank: Shawn’s pick and the star of the night. The lamb was super tender, fall off the bone. The Demi glacé was well seasoned and not too sweet. Paired well with garlic mash. Veggies were good, but portion was small.

Ube Cheesecake: Good, sweet, different.

Our server, Chris was great. Explained the menu in detailed, answered our many questions, and even told us about a free dessert if we left a review (which I planned to do anyways).

High Societe occupies the space where BD’s Mongolian Bbq used to be. It looks totally different inside and the decor is gorgeous. It’s dark, moody, dramatic. Lots of greens, blues, accented with gold. Completely different vibes. Green tiled walls in the bathroom with actual door knobs on the stalls. Fancy! Overall, it was a good experience. The menu is good. We didn’t try the Caesar salad or Firecracker Shrimp which a lot of tables were ordering.

Have you tried High Societe? What did you think?
