A visit to Brooklyn Street Local was long overdue, but better late than never, right?! The menu at Brooklyn Street Local is exploding with locally sourced ingredients, seasonal and organic goodies supplied from Detroit urban farms. With dishes ranging from Eggs Benedict to scones to omelettes and pancakes, Brooklyn Street Local keeps it simple while adding options that cater to multiple palates. Brooklyn Street Local also offers many dishes as vegetarian and vegan, which is perfect for me. I stopped in for brunch a couple weeks ago and finally experienced exactly everything I have been hearing.
Breakfast Hash: Roasted potatoes, roasted vegetables, sunny- side-up egg, tempeh. I love a good hash and this one from Brooklyn Street Local is no exception. Comforting potatoes, soft on the inside, browned on the outside. The tempeh has a nutty, earthy flavor that was perfect with the roasted sweet potato, red pepper, and onion. Who doesn’t like a sunny side up egg with a yolk perfect for dipping?
Breakfast Poutine: Hand-cut fries, sunny-side-up egg, organic cheese curd, mushroom gravy, tempeh. It’s a great start to any day when all you have to do is throw a fried egg on top of french fries and call it brunch. Poutine is one of my favorite dishes, for obvious reasons. Rich gravy cascading over crispy french fries, topped with creamy cheese curds. Delicious! Brooklyn Street Local does the Breakfast Poutine well, as they should since the owners hail from Toronto. I like the addition of tempeh for a little hearty protein. The sunny side up egg is an added bonus, with a silky yolk that drips between layers of fries and cheese curds once broke.
Brooklyn Street Local is a smaller place, but don’t let that fool you. They are dishin’ out big flavors with homestyle vibes. Overall, the service was good and totally worth the short wait. However, it did give us time to swing by PJ’s Lager House next door and grab a bloody Mary (Brooklyn Street Local does not serve booze). Mad respect to Brooklyn Street Local and their dedication to composting, recycling, and waste reduction. This is important to me and it’s great to see restaurants adopting these practices. Keep it up!
Brooklyn Street Local also does catering and hosts pop up events.
Thanks for the company, 81! 🙂
