Corktown: Batch Brewing Company

Blog· Detroit· Restaurant reviews

22 Jul

Batch Brewing Company which opened early in 2015, is located in Detroit’s Corktown community, just a few blocks from Michigan Ave. First of all, menu is described as “handcrafted scratch kitchen pub cuisine” and it couldn’t be more spot on. For a small brewery, Batch Brewing Company has a pretty solid food menu. You can order a little bit of everything with options ranging from Grilled Romaine Ceasar Salad to Smoked Whitefish Spread. Want something a little more classic brewery feel? You can expect Pub Pretzels, Nachos, and the Cubano Sandwich.

I tried one of the sour beers, of course.

That’s the Way She Goes, Eh? Sour, Gose. 4.6% ABV. Sour, light, and refreshing. Perfect! That's the Way She Goes, Eh? from Batch Brewing Company in Corktown Detroit, MI. Light with a nice sour notePasty of the Day: Tender, lamb blended with mediterranean spices. It was very flavorful with a hint of spice. The pasty itself was flaky on the outside, but warm and buttery on the inside. Finally, I loved that these pies were easy to eat, handheld, and perfect for dipping.Lamb Pasty from Batch Brewing Company in Corktown Detroit, MI is a flavorful, handheld pie that is perfect for sharing. Grilled Fish Tacos: Pineapple, mango salsa, cabbage, and Chipotle creama. Super fresh and light. The fish was fresh and flaky. Crunchy cabbage complimented the bright, spicy salsa. Lastly, the Chipotle crema was the perfect addition to tie everything together. The only bad thing was that these tacos were very juicy. As a result, the taco leaked and the tortilla got soggy.Grilled Fish Tacos from Batch Brewing Company in Corktown Detroit, MI offers good food and even better beer. There are no servers, just food runners and bartenders. I am seeing more places adopting this type of service and it works in a casual setting like Batch Brewing Company. Choose from a community of board games to play while either on the patio or inside the brewery. Overall, Batch Brewing Company is a good spot with a decent vibe. Additionally, you can catch the many events at Batch Brewing Company including Happy Hour Yoga happening August 8th at 6 PM. Rent out Batch Brewing Company for your next event. We all know baby showers and birthdays are more fun when they are at a brewery!

Especially relevant, Michelle is in town from Denver and I am super excited to take her around the city. First, we will be at the Gabriel Hall pop up at Nancy Whiskey tomorrow night (July 23rd) 6-9 PM. The pop up will feature DJ Skeez, a Detroit/New Orleans deejay. What’s on the menu? Po Boys! My long time friend Ederique Goudia has teamed up co-owner Dameon Gabriel to form the creole restaurant. This duo has plans to open their restaurant/venue in Detroit’s West Village in 2018.

More of Lyon, France! Must Eat: - French flan More of Lyon, France!

Must Eat:

- French flan at Duclef Cafe @duclef_cafe_patisserie Super creamy, yet light. The best flan ever. Really good coffee and pastries.

- Praline Brioche at @pralus_laboulangerie. Pink is the classic. Sweet and nutty. We also tried chocolate which was our favorite.

- Escargot. Most restaurants have it. Don’t be afraid, order it. Buttery, garlicky, delicious.

Must See/Do:

- Roman Theater. Ruins, very cool.

- Notre Dame Cathedral. We liked it better than the one in Paris. Beautiful inside and outside. You could see it lit up at night on the hill across the river.

- Le Bal des Ardents. Bookstore with a cool doorway arch of books. Down the street is Carmelo, a really good Italian spot. Plan these two things together.

- Traboules. Secret passageways between the streets, some the public can still access. Marked with a blue lion. Very cool! Pictured are two popular ones: Maison de Crible - Tour Rose and Traboule et Cour des Voraces.

- Place des Jacobsins. Beautiful square with a fountain in the center. Artists were sketching and painting it. It was very cool.

- There are also gardens you can check out. We skipped this due to time and it being October.

The city is full of great food, culture, and things to do. Stay in Vieux Lyon. Right along the river. You can walk anywhere within 10-30 min. Safe, beautiful, and lovely.
